This listing of stations carrying Joe is lighter than I would have imagined for an artist of his stature:
http://www.joefrank.com/airplay.html

Why no coverage in SoCal?

Any chance writing to station manager may open some minds?

Okay, just a snippet remembered: A very sad woman saying "And I loved you so much..." Or something like that. She may be weeping, but I'm not sure. Sorry, I know its very little to go on. I know its not the woman proclaiming her love in "Soul Mates" and I've listened to SO many shows looking for this very specific part. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mine was the one about the corrutped bible salesman. My friend made me a tape of it, and I've listened to it so many times, i know many of the parts by heart. Man, when he shoots that choir boy, that's some cold shit.
I even based a roleplaying character on him. We played this zombie roleplaying game called "all brains must be eaten" and i was this corrupted bible salesman fighting zombies that were animated corpses of the nearby elderly rest home. I narrowly escaped the police/military baricade surrounding the scene of the crime, and the cops tryed to play it(the zombie massacre) off as a marauding gang of satanists eating old people's brains. All because of the corrupted bibles found in the ruins of that greasy spoon that burnt down.
Anyways, my character managed to leak his story to the weekly world news and it goes on from there...
so what was your first episode?

random frank lines

Yesterday, I was listening to WFMU's random song generator*, when it spit out a chunk of Joe Frank. I was working, so I wasn't focusing on Joe at all, but one line caught my attention:

"The women come and go, speaking of the Regis Philbin show."

I love the T.S. Eliot reference. Makes me wonder why Joe decided to change "talking" to "speaking."

* WFMU might be my new favorite radio station, right up there with KFJC. The WFMU random song generator spits out 10 random chunks from their archive of the last two weeks. Cool stuff:

Just got this in my mail yesterday. It has a grave tone to it and I haven't heard much from Joe in a while so I hope it's not too serious.

Joe Frank Newsletters

I missed Joe's recent show in SF because I found out too late, sold out. So, in order to make sure that doesn't happen again, I subscribed to Joe Frank's newsletter. I'll post the newsletters here in this thread as I get them for others who aren't subscribed, here's December's:

December 21, 2004:
Early morning of the 19th we experienced a severe hardware malfunction forcing us to configure a new server and move the web site. You probably noticed varying stages of our "progress" getting the site back to normal. Late last night, we finally succeeded. (Thanks for your patience.)

For those of you who placed orders on the 19th we have received them and will send everything out priority mail today. You should receive the package by Friday the 19th.

If you wanted to place an order while the site was down, you can place your order now, and we'll send it out priority mail today as well. If you place an order for 5 or more CDs, we'll send it using FedEx at no extra charge. Please include your phone number in the comments section of the PayPal checkout.

For an additional $6.00 charge, orders received today, Wednesday and Thursday (by 3:00pm California time), will be shipped using FedEx at your request. After you place your order on JoeFrank.com, go to your PayPal account and send a payment to shop@joefrank.com for $6.00. Note in the Comments section your telephone number (required by FedEx) and that you want your order shipped via FedEx.

Other news:
Most of you know that Joe's new show for December, "Bottle for a Headstone," is online for Premium Members. Also available for Premium Members: rare early Joe Frank aired on NPR Playhouse.

Changes coming next month:
In early January, the October, November and December premium material will be archived and available at a nominal charge. Premium Members will then have access to new material introduced monthly. At the end of each month, the show produced for that month will be archived.

There's a lot more coming next month - we'll send January's newsletter out soon.

Again, thanks for your patience.

New Joe Frank Wiki!

Hello everyone:

I have started a Joe Frank Wiki! The goal of the site is essentially to catalog Joe Frank's body of work. It was inspired by the Joe Frank Reminder, a great starting point created by Erik Shirokoff.

http://www.jfwiki.org

There are no advertisements or pop-ups.

I hope you enjoy it, and more importantly I hope you will join me in improving it. I have included the text of the "about this site" page below.

--W

-------------------------------------------------

Thanks for visiting the Joe Frank Wiki!

If this is your first experience with a wiki, you're in for a treat. Wikis (of which this is one) are websites where anyone can edit virtually any page. For this site, it means an opportunity for Joe Frank's fans to work together to catalog his shows. The result? There will hopefully be many results:

* A site anyone can refer to to learn more about Joe Frank and what to expect when listening to a particular show.
* A way to introduce newcomers to Joe Frank and increase the audience for his work.
* A forum for analyzing the material in Joe Frank's shows: understanding connections between shows, discussing the implications, ...

What this site needs most is a dedicated group of contributors! Have a look at our to-do list. If you're looking for style guidelines, Higher Learning is a good example of how a program writeup can be structured. So dig in and get started! To experience editing a page on a wiki, go play in the sandbox, which is a special page where it's perfectly acceptable to edit and change content for no reason except to play and learn. There is a user's guide to editing pages, but for those not into manuals, click the "Edit" link at the top of any page to look at the syntax of the text that goes into wiki formatting and learn the tricks as you go along.
Karma Redux

On XM they played a show called "Karma Redux" about Joe's relationships and how he got in a fight with his girlfriend (I think her name was Kate) because some guy bad-mouthed him to her (a "Canadian DP") and it turned out it wasn't Joe Frank he bad-mouthed but some other guy. The whole show blew my mind because I'm trying to get over my ex and what he said really affected me. It sunk in deep because I went through very similar things in regards to what he said about love and separating from that love.

Has anybody else heard this particular show?

I was watching MTV the other day (don't ask) and along came a commercial for MTV with a voiceover that sounded a lot like Joe and subject matter that was right up his alley. Can anyone confirm this audible sighting?

Yay!
I can't believe my good fortune; to be able to see him read LIVE...and up close. Anyone other lucky ones want to share?

His material was as always, tragic and hilarious. It amazes me how his stories and dry delivery can cause emotions to rise and dip and rise again before he completes a single sentence.

My only regret is that I didn't initiate a standing ovation when he left the stage. I waited for someone else to start...damn my own self-consciousness.

I LOVE JOE!

Is anyone else in SF as upset to be unable to see Joe Frank this weekend in LA as I am? I just got on this tribe.net thing recently and I am surprised and happy to find a Joe Frank tribe!

Anyways, the reason I am posting is I am curious if anyone here has explored the possibility of booking Joe for a show here in the Bay Area. It seems like all his shows have been in the LA area and it would be nice to bring him up here. I'd like to make it happen and I am wondering if anyone has tried and could give me some pointers, or if anyone would like to help me out!

I'll keep you guys posted on what happens.

I'm looking for a show. I don't remember the title (natch), but somewhere in the midst of things was a story about kings who collected tribute from each town and village based on their yearly weight, and finishes off with one king who becomes enormously fat in order to be enormously wealthy.

It's a story I like to scare my friends with ... but I haven't heard it in at least 10 years, and I'd like get listen to it again. Does anyone else remember this?

NAME THAT SHOW....

Okay, kids - for ONE - THANK YOU for creating this TRIBE!!! God how I love you Joe Frank - where ARE you???

ANYWAY... here's what I'm looking for - I'm pretty sure I can find the mp3 or what-have-you on my own... but I just need a title...

1. the show containing the segment on the suicide spot - something about it being a popular spot for suicides because it's effluent from a power plant or something and that it's SO ACIDIC that bodies and any other object will vaporise on contact with it. AT ANY RATE, the NARRATOR goes on to observe and rate these death dives according to style (double gainer with a half twist -VERY NICE...etc..)...
please name this show!

2. It was an NPR KCRW fund drive summer of 1999 perhaps - Monsieur Frank was advertising the grand prize as the "gateway to hell" vacation (I'm SURE that's wrong - but effectively correct anyhow) - the prize winner would be flown to the middle east and have lunch with saddam hussein and khaddafi, idi amin, etc... and the piece de resistance would be to walk across hot coals and have your arms hacked off - I'm SO not doing it justice in my distorted, tired memory but it was funny as FUCK!!! Omigod.

If anyone can help me on this or fill in any details, please DO let me know. THANKS!!
