Yay!
I can't believe my good fortune; to be able to see him read LIVE...and up close. Anyone other lucky ones want to share?
His material was as always, tragic and hilarious. It amazes me how his stories and dry delivery can cause emotions to rise and dip and rise again before he completes a single sentence.
My only regret is that I didn't initiate a standing ovation when he left the stage. I waited for someone else to start...damn my own self-consciousness.
I LOVE JOE!

Re: Joe at The Hammer Last Night
Wed, June 23, 2004 - 10:03 AMi was there as well and i was hanging on his EVERY word waiting for the next. i had never heard him read live before and thought that the reason i always listened so closely and absorbed every syllable he uttered over the radio, besides the fact that his work is amazing, was because it WAS through the radio, and i had to pay extra attention or something...however, last night i truly realized that the real reason i get so wrapped up in his utterances is because he is simply brilliant!
there was a guy not too far from me who actually fell asleep though. i was so baffled by that...how can anyone fall asleep while listening to him especially LIVE?!!
i should've kicked him in the shins.

Re: Joe at The Hammer Last Night
Wed, June 23, 2004 - 1:57 PMI noticed the familiar gruffness becmore more and more apparent as he read on. He had a glass of water available but did not take a drink the whole time. If anyone of you here on Tribe were one of the people who were there taking pictures of him, post them in the photo section.

Sat, June 26, 2004 - 8:48 AMHow cruel for us not to post about it here so that there would be enough room! It was free, and limited to 300 people. Every seat was taken and some people were standing in the back. One only needed to go to joefrank.com to find out about it.
