Is anyone else in SF as upset to be unable to see Joe Frank this weekend in LA as I am? I just got on this tribe.net thing recently and I am surprised and happy to find a Joe Frank tribe!
Anyways, the reason I am posting is I am curious if anyone here has explored the possibility of booking Joe for a show here in the Bay Area. It seems like all his shows have been in the LA area and it would be nice to bring him up here. I'd like to make it happen and I am wondering if anyone has tried and could give me some pointers, or if anyone would like to help me out!
I'll keep you guys posted on what happens.

Thu, May 13, 2004 - 11:56 AMI would think that KPFA (94.1 FM) would have the best shot at getting Joe up here to perform live...I also wonder whether certain local non-profit arts/literary presenters would have any muscle in this regard. Perhaps those of us in the Bay Area could e-mail KPFA (www.kpfa.org) to let them know of our interest, although probably independently (so it doesn't sound like a mass form letter).

Thu, May 13, 2004 - 2:34 PMKPFA had a special Joe Frank program a few months back during a pledge drive, the highlight of which was supposed to be a live phone call from Joe. Well, Joe didn't call, and the DJ spent quite a bit of the last 1.5 hours of the show profusely apologizing.
If you're gonna try putting something together, contact some venues, think about pricing, marketing etc. - then pitch Joe with your idea - getting KPFA on board as a sponsor/promoter would be helpful too. -

True, but he did call and do an hour long live program the following week, complete with a very long appology.
Getting in touch with the Arts and Lit folks at KPFA is a good idea. They've been promising a live Joe event for years. You could always call them up and offer to do the planning and footwork to line it up. -
